Polestar Starts Production Of Polestar 1 PHEV In China

Polestar has become an OEM and launched production of the Polestar 1. Polestar 2 is coming in early 2020.

Polestar has officially launched production of its first model – the performance plug-in hybrid Polestar 1 – at the all-new production center in Chengdu, China.

Customer deliveries are expected to be on schedule and should start by the end of this year. Polestar intends to produce around 500 Polestar 1 per year and a total of 1,500 units over three years.

“The new Polestar Production Centre in Chengdu, China, sets a new industry benchmark in electric vehicle manufacture and will produce the Polestar 1 – an exclusive, carbon fibre-bodied Electric Performance Hybrid. The facility, which has been completed on schedule, will produce vehicles for both China and global export markets with first customer deliveries expected before the end of 2019.”

“Premium craftsmanship and the integration of high-tech digital technology come together in producing the Polestar 1. The process is overseen by highly trained quality control auditors whom, with a minimum of 10 years of experience, apply some of the strictest monitoring and assessment procedures in the industry. “

The important thing is that the brand aspires to be a stand-alone vehicle OEM, within Geely Group. Polestar is now an actual stand-alone company, as it has received a World Manufacturer Identifier (WMI).

The second model – an all-electric Polestar 2 – will be produced from early 2020 on in Luqiao, China.

Polestar 1 specs:

  • 34 kWh battery for up to 150 km (93 miles) of all-electric range
  • System output: 600 hp and 1000 Nm (a petrol engine and the Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) driving front wheels and two electric motors driving the rear wheels). Electric motors are rated at 80 kW (109 hp) each, while ISG at 34 kW (46 hp).
