Tesla: Model 3 certified as a taxi in New York, an electric first

The Tesla Model 3 is officially part of the list of vehicles approved by the city hall of New York to serve as a taxi in the big apple. It is even the first electric car to be approved.

Long gone are the days when most of the taxis in New York were Ford, and more particularly Crown Victoria. Times have changed and it is now possible to come across a whole bunch of vehicles, from the Chevrolet Impala to the Chrysler Pacifica via the Toyota RAV4.

There remained, however, one category of car excluded from the list of approved vehicles: electrics.

Concretely, this means that from now on, taxi companies in New York can choose a Tesla Model 3 and obtain a “medallion”, a license number for the driver who uses the taxi.

A real opportunity for these companies which could benefit from the advantages of the low cost to use an electric, especially since the charging stations and superchargers are present in number in New York, unlike other big cities like Miami.

In the United States, the Model 3 in its “Standard” configuration starts at $ 30,815, excluding taxes, which makes it a good alternative to hybrid vehicles from the list of cars approved by the city.
